Charles Village MD Townhomes

Home of Painted Ladies

A vibrant mix of old and new, traditional and cutting-edge, Charles Village in north-central Baltimore is, literally and figuratively, one of the city’s most colorful neighborhoods. It’s home to a diverse and famously active citizenry, a string of trendy art galleries, a hodgepodge of one-of-a-kind shops, and painted ladies.
The last are this community’s most distinctive feature – the sight of these vividly painted Victorian rowhouses can brighten up the most overcast day and it’s no surprise why they’re the most sought-after Charles Village, MD townhomes. Their flamboyant hues and stately, classic lines go together surprisingly well and have made them a true Baltimore icon. More than a hundred of these brilliantly colored Charles Village, MD Luxury Homes (in egg yolk yellow, emerald green, blushing rose, and so on) line the streets of Charles Village, personifying the neighborhood’s multihued character.

A Historic Neighborhood

Before these Victorian ladies were painted – and, indeed, even before Charles Village was Charles Village – this mainly residential area went by the name of Peabody Heights and was originally established in 1879 to be a suburban community for those who weren’t in possession of great estates, but wanted to be near them just the same. In the areas surrounding Peabody Heights once stood estates like the Brady Mansion, the Homewood House and Villa, Huntingdon and the Vineyard.

The Homewood estate eventually became the campus of the same name of the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University. This campus is where you’ll find the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences as well as the Whiting School of Engineering.
